A court interpreter is a person appointed by the President of the District Court authorised to translate written or spoken text at the request of the court, state authority, legal or natural person from Croatian into a foreign language for which they have been appointed or vice versa, from a foreign language into Croatian. Before being appointed court interpreter, a person must meet certain requirements defined by the Ordinance on permanent court interpreters. Knowledge of legal terminology is required for interpreting in legal proceedings. Only a court interpreter has the authority to issue a certified translation of the document.
A certified translation is a special form of translating the original text prepared by the court interpreter and has the status of an official document. A certified translation consists of translating the original text and a certification that guarantees the faithfulness of the translated text to the original. With their stamp and signature on the translation, the court interpreter guarantees the faithfulness of the translation to the original. Each certified translation has its own unique number under which it is registered in the book of certifications by the court interpreter.
Certified translation is required in the process of exercising rights in any proceedings before government authorities, courts and public notaries. INTERPRETA’s team of court interpreters will prepare certified translations of superior quality, in addition to guaranteeing data security and confidentiality. The time required to prepare a certified translation depends on the amount and type of the text and the language being translated.
