Interpreting is the process of transferring information from one language into another. Interpreting can be performed in written or verbal form and is divided into court interpreting, consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting and whispered interpreting.
A person trained to provide court interpreting services is called a court interpreter. In order for a person to become a court interpreter, they must meet strict requirements of the Ordinance on permanent court interpreters and be appointed by the President of the District Court. Court interpreting can be in written or verbal form.
Consecutive interpreting is a translation process in which the interpreter verbally translates the speaker’s words into the target language when the speaker pauses after completing a sentence or thought. Consecutive interpreting is suitable for smaller events and meetings.
Simultaneous interpreting is interpreting in which the translator speaks in parallel with the speaker. Simultaneous interpreting requires special equipment, which consists of a translation booth, headphones and a corresponding sound unit.
Whispered interpreting is a combination of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, that is, a form of interpreting in which the translator is very close to the speaker and simultaneously translates in a low voice, but whispered interpreting does not require special technical equipment.
